Veganuary 2022: Vegan options at Costa

This Veganuary, Costa have added some new vegan options as well as bringing back some old favourites. They're also stocking some great vegan finds made from other brands such as Bol, and lots of sweet treats too! Here's a quick handy guide to what's vegan friendly at Costa Coffee (written January 2022):

Which drinks are vegan at Costa?

Costa do 4 types of plant milk: oat, almond, soya and coconut. They have recently switched to using Adez milk, a vegan milk brand owned by Coca Cola (like Costa Coffee), which people have had mixed feelings about. The most important thing about this change is that they now all have a may contain gluten warning that they didn't have before. Please double check before drinking if you have an allergy!

All of their hot drinks are vegan (when ordered without toppings or whipped cream) except from the following:

✘ Ruby hot chocolate

✘ White hot chocolate

✘ Most of the Frostinos, I believe (the mint choc chip, strawberry and coffee ones are safe for vegans if ordered without cream!)

✘ Iced Cappucino / Iced flat white (have a dairy topping on them)

Also, if you scan your Costa Card you'll get free milk alternatives for January!

Is Costa Hot Chocolate Vegan?

Yes! It contains no milk and is suitable for vegans. A lot of people have been told by people serving there that the hot chocolate isn't, but this is a cross contamination warning. This is also why the Costa website and allergen menu list it as not suitable, but if you take a look at the allergen information it is purely a cross contamination warning, so as long as you order it with plant milk and no marshmallows or cream you're good to go!

What food is vegan at Costa?

Costa do a few vegan food options, such as:
  • Vegan bacon bap (soy free)
  • Vegan cheese and ham toastie (soy free)
  • Vegan BBQ chicken panini
  • Vegan mac and cheese
And some other non-Costa branded items, but this may vary from store to store and the information isn't available on the Costa website.

Which cakes are vegan at Costa?

  • Chocolate and pecan slice
  • Ginger loaf cake
  • Gingerbead bear (soy free but doesn't show up on their website when filtered?)
  • Apple crumble flapjack (soy free)
  • Fruity flapjack (soy free)

Which snacks are vegan at Costa?

  • Vegan pick n mix (gluten free)
  • Toast (no butter) (soy free)
  • Fruited teacake
  • Dark chocolate rice cakes (gluten free)
  • Sweet chilli rice snacks (gluten free)

I hope this was useful and that you find some lovely coffee and good food! 😄

  1. The frapps aren't vegan, not the ones you listed certainly. Their websire says contains milk in the product

    1. Hi, this was correct at the time of writing, however this article is from 11 months ago. It looks like costa no longer do a mint choc chip frappe, and the website will not let you remove the dairy cream was the customisation options despite the fact this is possible in store. However, their allergen menu is available online, where you can see that the syrups they use for the frappes I mentioned are vegan (i.e. the strawberry one, as the coffee one is just ... coffee) so the ones that I have listed that are still available are in fact vegan, though obviously you need to order with dairy free milk. Hope this helps.
